Greetings!
Managing people -- the most challenging of duties -- just got a whole lot easier for dentists. At least, it got a whole lot easier for the dentists and practice managers lucky enough to attend our Leadership and Accountability Insititute in New York!
In this issue, we share with you the very First Rule of Managing People that we shared with them.
Read on ...
Rule #1 of Managing People
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Rule #1 of managing people exceptionally well is, "Always hire motivated people." Were reminded of the business owner who was asked, "Who trained your staff to be so polite and well-groomed?" The owner answered, "Their mothers and fathers."
Does Southwest Airlines inspire its employees to be helpful and fun? In some ways, yes. But the reason Southwest has so many helpful and fun people is ... they hire people who are helpful and fun.
This Month's Farewell Comes from Ronald Reagan
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
From President Reagan's Farewell Address:
"The [American] sailor was hard at work on the carrier Midway, which was patrolling the South China Sea. The sailor, like most American servicemen, was young, smart, and fiercely observant. The crew spied on the horizon a leaky little boat. And crammed inside were refugees from Indochina hoping to get to America.
"The Midway sent a small launch to bring them to the ship and safety. As the refugees made their way through the choppy seas, one spied the sailor on deck and stood up and called out to him. He yelled, 'Hello, American sailor. Hello, freedom man.'"
Happy Thanksgiving to all of you, and especially to all the Freedom Men and Freedom Women whose sacrifice allows us to enjoy the Holidays. As former Senator Zell Miller reminds us, "It is the soldier, not the reporter, who has given us freedom of the press.
"It is the soldier, not the poet, who has given us freedom of speech. It is the soldier, not the agitator, who has given us the freedom to protest. And it is the soldier who salutes the flag, serves beneath the flag, whose coffin is draped by the flag, and who gives that protester the freedom he abuses to burn that flag."
God Bless America,
Pat, Ginny & Lorraine
