Working in a dental office can be a spritual experience.

Really.

It has been said that all souls are bound together, as with rope, and the movement of one is reflected in every other.

This month, a story from the Talmud, an ancient Jewish text, that speaks directly to those of us working at the dental office. The story or "Midrash" illustrates how the actions of each of us affect all of us.

In the Same Boat
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
One day on a crowded boat, one passenger begins to drill a hole under his seat. When the others object, he retorts, "What complaint do you have? After all, I'm drilling the hole under my own seat. It's got nothing to do with you!"

Finally, a wise man answers him, "Mishugenah, we are all in the same boat. The hole may be under your seat, but the water that comes in will make the boat sink with all of us in it."

In a spiritual sense -- and in a very real one at work -- we are all in the same boat. Every act of our own affects the others.

How many people on your team are boring those little holes? How many are failing to return a patient's phone call promptly? How many fail to verify that the lab case has arrived and that the dentist has checked it before the patient's appointment? How many let underachievers bumble along and wallow in mediocrity?

Save Your Marriage

Dr. Laura Schlesinger does an incredible job of explaining and defending men in her book, The Care and Feeding of Husbands. The book is available on audio at Amazon and elsewhere. Get it. It is based upon the real calls she gets from men and women on her radio show.

Dr. Laura explains, for example, that when women insist on venting about their problems without allowing advice, they unwittingly emasculate their men who want to be the Knight in Shining Armor who solves problems.

This book helps bring us closer together. It gives women much better understanding of men, and flies in the face of much other advice on the subject. Men and women alike who listen to this book will learn to get what they want!
